"Camera Phones and Facebook"

Dear Stay Focussed reader,

Welcome to the June newsletter. Two things this month - camera phones, and Facebook.

Camera phones

I wonder if you have a camera phone? Maybe you know someone who has one?

The reason I ask is that they seem to be getting better and better! I tried a friend's iPhone the other day and I have to admit the pictures were pretty darn good!

But they go even further these days. A few free apps can turn your camera phone into something rather special.

abstract photography

Put simply, you download the app and install it on your phone. Then snap away.

You can make changes to your photos right there and then as you take the photo, or apply effects afterwards.

The effects are things like cross processing, warped features, enhanced highlights...the list goes on and on!

My personal feelings are mixed. If we make all our current photos look 'old', what will we look back on in years to come? What will define 2012 in terms of image 'feel'?

I've written in more detail here, but I do recommend giving the apps a try if you can, and come to your own conclusion.

digital-photography-tips.net on Facebook!

I've taken the plunge and decided to create a Facebook page for digital-photography-tips.net.

I'm sure you know far more about Facebook than me so if you have any tips please don't hesitate to send them my way.

Hopefully the page will build and it gives you, my subscriber, an easy way to share your images and thoughts on all things photography.

The page is here; http://www.facebook.com/dpt.net and I think all you do is 'like' it, or 'friend' it, or something like that...!

That's all for this month, give the apps a go if you can, and hope to see you on Facebook!

Darrell.

"Try a Prime Lens"

Dear Stay Focussed reader,

You may wonder why so many photographers wander around with a large and bulky digital SLR hanging around their necks?

Perhaps you're more than happy with your compact digital camera - and I'd have to agree that compact cameras just get better and better, practically by the week!

There is something digital SLR camera owners can do though, and that's change lens.

I'm sure you're wondering why bother, especially when the zoom lens on your camera does all you want.

Well, there is one lens that at first sight is spectacularly pointless - prime lenses.

50mm digital slr lens

Prime lens?

Prime lenses are fixed focal length lenses. Zoom lenses are variable focal length.

That means zoom lenses go from wide angle to telephoto. Prime lenses ... well, they don't change at all. They are stuck at whatever length of zoom they had when they left the factory.

Why bother I hear you cry?

There are a couple of reasons.

First, because there's no need to fit in a zoom mechanism the quality of the optics tends to be better.

Second, the aperture goes much wider in a prime lens. This means you get much better control over depth of field, and that's one thing that can really make your photos stand out from the crowd.

helping with composition

There's a third reason that prime lenses are worth having - they make you think more about your composition.

And that's something we can all try no matter what camera you own.

Here's something to try - set your zoom to something around the middle of its range and don't move it. Instead, move yourself, or reframe your subject.

Once you get out of the habit of constantly nudging the zoom control it's amazing how you find yourself really considering the scene you're photographing.

And that can only be a good thing for your photography! See you next month,

Darrell.

"Abstract Photography"

Dear Stay Focussed reader,

Ever thought about doing something a little more abstract with your photography?

abstract photography One very easy technique to get more abstract is to look for repeating patterns in a scene.

Once you stop to look at the world around you you'll see lots of repeating patterns. Capture them, and you're well on your way to someting more abstract.

Take the photo here as one example - admittedly there's more to it than just a repeating pattern, but it does illustrate what can be done if you seek out those patterns.

With Easter almost here I know a lot of you will have a little extra time on your hands, so why not get the camera out and look for something more abstract!

Last chance...

I'm not going to go on and on about it (in fact, this is the last time I'm going to mention it!) but this is your last chance to take up the special deal I arranged for you, my subscriber.

The offer expires this Sunday - when you may well be distracted by egg hunts (well, you might be if you have kids like mine!) - so it's a now or never moment. You can find all the details here, and in my honest opinion, it really is a teriffic offer - the best I've ever come across in all my years on the internet.

And remember that this offer is ONLY for my subscribers, no-one else has access to this.

That's all for now. See you next month,

Darrell.

The Photography Offer April 2012

Dear Stay Focussed reader,

Well, here is my last message to you about how you can transform your photography with the help of my friend Amy Renfrey.

She's offering her photography ebooks for free with every subscription, ebooks about all the things you ever wanted to know about photography.

I've now got all the details about how this works. Here goes: Grab yourself a subscription to "Focus", Amy's photography monthly Ezine.

  • You'll also get her entire collection of ebooks

  • Plus you'll get 8 back issues of the Ezine, on the house...

...just because you are one of my subscribers.

There are nine ebooks in total and each month, for nine months, you get one of these ebooks for free with your subscription.

  • Sign up for the subscription and you'll get 8 back issues of the Focus Ezine for only $15.00

  • Each month, after a full month of subscription ($15.00), you'll get an ebook sent to you, on the house. It's valued at $221.82, but it's yours for free, with every current subscription.

Here's what you get each month while you are subscribed to "Focus" Ezine:

  • Once you sign up in the first month, you'll be sent 8 complimentary back issues (with first issue)

  • "The Secrets Of Lighting", valued at $19.77 (with second issue)

  • "Digital Photography Techniques", valued at $17.00 (with third Issue)

  • "Digital Photography Presentation", valued at $19.97 (with fourth issue)

  • "Five Most Popular Scenarios In Digital Photography", valued at $24.97 (with fifth issue)

  • "Digital Photography In Abstract", valued at $14.97 (with sixth issue)

This entire package is worth over $300. And you get it as a gift; only because you are one of my subscribers.

The fine print. Not that there is much, but here is a bit extra:

  • Take out a subscription for $15 a month; get 8 back issues valued at $120, plus $221.28 of free ebooks.

  • You get the 8 back issues straight away- valued at $120

  • Each month, you'll be sent a new ebook. (Focus comes out each month.)

  • You need to be subscribed for at least nine months for you to be entitled to receive the entire collection. (That's because there are nine ebooks and one video in the collection).

One more thing I haven't told you. Each issue has a terrific photography video in it. It's a topical video each issue.

For example one issue may have a video on landscape photography, the next months video may be on black and white photography, then next on colour and lighting, and so on. Each video lasts around 30-40 minutes.

There is nowhere else you'll get an amazing offer like this. Only here, as a subscriber.

Very important note: These ebooks are absolutely dynamic. They are jam packed with rich and fulfilling content. They contain the right information that will help you take stunning and striking photographs straight away. They are also explained in easy-to-understand English so anyone, at any level of education (regardless of how little photography you've done), can easily understand everything.

But you must take up this offer now because it won't be around in a few months. In fact it will not be around for much longer. This offer expires on the 8th of April, 2012. That's just over a week away.

Not only can you get over $300 worth of dynamic, life changing information, but you'll get the chance to put yourself on the same level as professional photographers.

Take out a subscription. You will absolutely love it. It will completely transform your photos for life. Go here to get it NOW!.

Darrell.
